چکیده

For a positive integer n and graph B, fa (n) is the least integer m such that any graph of order n and minimal degree m has a copy of B. It will be show that if B is a bipartite graph with parts of order k and i (k-1), then there exists a positive constant c, such that for any tree T of order n and for any j (0-j _-(k-1)), the Ramsey number r(T, B) < n + c-(fe (n)) 't(k-1) if A(T)-(n/(k-j-1))-(j+2)-fa(n). In particular, this implies r(T, B) is bounded above by n + o(n) for any tree T (since fa (n) = o(n) when B is a bipartite graph), and by n + O(1) if the tree T has no vertex of large degree. For special classes of bipartite graphs, such as even cycles, sharper bounds will be proved along with examples demonstrating their sharpness. Also, applications of this to the determination of Ramsey number for arbitrary graphs and trees will be discussed .

Zarankiewicz Numbers and Bipartite Ramsey Numbers

The Zarankiewicz number z(b; s) is the maximum size of a subgraph of Kb,b which does not contain Ks,s as a subgraph. The two-color bipartite Ramsey number b(s, t) is the smallest integer b such that any coloring of the edges of Kb,b with two colors contains a Ks,s in the rst color or a Kt,t in the second color. In this work, we design and exploit a computational method for bounding and computing...

Blow-Up Lemma

The Regularity Lemma [16] is a powerful tool in Graph Theory and its applications. It basically says that every graph can be well approximated by the union of a constant number of random-looking bipartite graphs called regular pairs (see the definitions below). These bipartite graphs share many local properties with random bipartite graphs, e.g. most degrees are about the same, most pairs of ve...

Det-extremal cubic bipartite graphs

Let G be a connected k–regular bipartite graph with bipartition V (G) = X ∪Y and adjacency matrix A. We say G is det–extremal if per(A) = |det(A)|. Det–extremal k–regular bipartite graphs exist only for k = 2 or 3. McCuaig has characterized the det–extremal 3–connected cubic bipartite graphs. We extend McCuaig’s result by determining the structure of det–extremal cubic bipartite graphs of conne...

Monochromatic tree covers and Ramsey numbers for set-coloured graphs

We extend results on monochromatic tree covers and from classical Ramsey theory to a generalised setting, where each of the edges of an underlying host graph (here, either a complete graph or a complete bipartite graph), is coloured with a set of colours. Our results for tree covers in this setting have an application to Ryser’s Conjecture. Every r-partite r-uniform hypergraph whose edges pairw...

Proof of a conjecture on fractional Ramsey numbers

Jacobson, Levin, and Scheinerman introduced the fractional Ramsey function rf (a1,a2, . . . ,ak) as an extension of the classical definition for Ramsey numbers. They determined an exact formula for the fractional Ramsey function for the case k=2. In this article, we answer an open problem by determining an explicit formula for the general case k>2 by constructing an infinite family of circulant...
